Hosted at Brown University every November, the Strait Talk Symposium is an innovative program dedicated to the promotion of open, informed, and creative dialogue on the Taiwan Strait issue.

Starting with our first event in 2005, we have brought together a large and diverse community of scholars, journalists, policy advisers, and ambassadors, to present the wide range of perspectives on the issue. Over the last two years, our participants have included James Lilley, Richard Bush, Thomas Gold, Jing Huang, Sam Zhao, among others.

The central focus of each year is our Interactive Conflict Resolution program –a week-long series of intensive, facilitated dialogue workshops that brings together fifteen committed, well-selected delegates from leading universities from both sides of the Taiwan Strait and the United States. Many of the past delegates have described Strait Talk as a “life-changing” experience.

Our goal is increased understanding, especially in the young generation. Our hope is that greater understanding between all sides will help bring about a brighter, more peaceful future.

Strait Talk is a student-initiated, student-run, and student-focused program with no political affiliation, and we seek to get all the relevant voices represented in the dialogue.
